Saxbys 2014 Gift Guide for Your Caffeine-Crazed Loved Ones

Let’s be real: Gift shopping is HARD. Who hasn’t bought a large shirt for their self-proclaimed medium mom or completely missed the mark with a not-so-thoughtful gift (read: digital scale) for their significant other?

Well, if you were thinking of getting us something (aww, you shouldn’t have!), we do have a whole list of gifts in mind. And lucky you: If you have any caffeine-crazed loved ones on your gift shopping list, this should totally have you covered too!

1. Chemex. Consider a Chemex one of the fastest ways to a coffee aficionado’s heart…though it’s not the fastest way to brew a cup ‘o joe. But that’s actually a good thing.  This drip coffee brewer produces a significantly less bitter cup, so much so that your Chemex-brewed coffee can be reheated and refrigerated without sacrificing flavor. (Plus, isn’t it pretty?)

2. Monkey mug. Honestly, who could drink coffee out of this silly mug in the morning and not start the day in a good mood?

3. Hudson Bay Blanket. What goes better with coffee than a nice, long lounge sesh? Now the coffee lover in your life can snuggle in style with a classic, oh-so-soft Hudson Bay Blanket.

4. Saxbys gift card. 1) How could we create a gift guide and not mention our gift cards 2) Right now you can get $30 gift cards for just $25 (aka you get $5 extra, on us).

5. Tea time measuring cupsNow, let’s not leave the tea lovers out of this. Not only are these tea-themed measuring cups handy, they’re also adorable enough to leave out on the counter (especially convenient if your gift-ee is short on cabinet space).

6. Find Momo coffee table book. Think Where’s Waldo for grown-ups, except a border collie stands in for the man in the striped shirt. Even if Momo escapes you, you’ll appreciate the photography.

Spend $25, Get $30! (If It Sounds Too Good to Be True…It’s Not.)

At Saxbys, we believe in doing more with less. So from now ’til December 28th, you only need to spend $25 to get a $30 gift card (that’s $5 extra, on us!). Because even your picky father-in-law or impossible-to-shop-for sister can’t say no to coffee, right?

This amazing promotion is happening at all Saxbys cafes* and on our site. Be sure to order online before December 17th so you can get your gift card before the holiday.

*NOTE: Gift cards purchased at Saxbys Centerville can only be used at Saxbys Centerville.

Want a Free, All-Natural Pumpkin Spice Latte? It’s Yours.

We think you’ll approve of our Halloween plans: From 12-7 on October 31st, we’re serving our small, all-natural Pumpkin Spice Lattes for free (yes, free!) in all of our cafés. All you have to do to get your hands on one? Come to a Saxbys café between noon and 7 p.m. and simply ask.

Why? We’re convinced that our PSL, made with only real, wholesome ingredients, needs to be enjoyed by the masses. And what better excuse than the most pumpkin-centric holiday of all, Halloween, to give ‘em away?

And that’s not all. You can also enter to win a month’s worth of free coffee! Just snap a pic of your Halloween PSL on the 31st, share it on Instagram with the hashtag #keepingitreal, and bam, you’re eligible to take home the big prize. This contest will run from noon to midnight on Halloween, and we’ll choose one winner at random.

FYI: One free, small PSL per guest. Oh, and showing up in a Halloween costume won’t hurt your case.

You’re Invited: Join the Saxbys Book Club!

Saxbys Book Club Image

Since nothing goes better with coffee than a good book, what better excuse to launch a Saxbys Book Club? And the best part is that everyone can join, no matter where you live.

Here’s how it’ll work: Each month, we’ll choose a book. (This month’s pick is The Possibilities, by Kaui Hart Hemmings.) You’ll have a whole month to buy, download, or borrow the book from the library (and, of course, read it!) before we meet to chat.

If you live in the Philly area, we’ll meet near the end of the month and discuss the book in person. Don’t live in Philly? No problem! We’ll also be hosting a Twitter chat so you can weigh in online.

Here’s the deal for this month:

We’ll be diving in to The Possibilities by Kaui Hart Hemmings, the New York Times best-selling author of The Descendents (remember that movie with George Clooney and Shailene Woodley?). It’s set in the idyllic ski town of Breckenridge, Colorado and is told from the perspective of a grieving single mother who is grappling with the death of her son. (Don’t worry, it’s not all gloomy!)

On Monday, November 3, we’ll meet at Saxbys Rittenhouse (2000 Walnut St, Philadelphia PA) from 5-6 P.M. to discuss the book over coffee and tea.

Can’t make it? On Tuesday, November 4 from noon to 1:00 P.M., we’ll host a Twitter chat to talk about the book. All you have to do is follow @Saxbys on Twitter and follow along with the hashtag #SaxbysBookChat.

Listen Up: Saxbys Songs for Fall Playlist

Saxbys Fall Soundtrack-01

We admit it: Fall may just be our favorite time of year (honestly, how could we resist Pumpkin Spice Latte season?). So we’re celebrating with a fun playlist filled with songs we’re loving this autumn, including a new song from Spoon and our new obsession, Broods. Grab your headphones, a PSL, and enjoy!

PS: You can follow Saxbys on Spotify for more musical goodness.

How We Celebrate Summer at Saxbys HQ (Including a Beachy Playlist!)

Ahh, summer. The perfect season for kicking back, relaxing and (if you ask anyone on Team Saxbys) throwing Hawaiian-themed parties.

Our interns, being good sports about our luau theme

This past Friday, we brought the beach to work for our summer Luau for You-au* complete with a whole mess of leis, a blow-up palm tree and a sea of Hawaiian-print shirts. Plus, the Saxbys team brought their A-game with a summery food spread (hold the roast pig). While it was nearly impossible to pick a favorite, a Best Dish contest forced us to narrow down between Polynesian poke with ahi tuna and homemade baklava made with Saxbys espresso. Baklava baker extraordinaire, Mike H., wound up taking home the big prize.

For those of us on the Saxbys team who don’t have Wolfgang Puck’s cooking chops, we held a little Best Dressed contest too—Lauren swept up the competition with her perfectly patterned summer dress and homemade hibiscus accessories.

And of course, no company party is complete without a few fun get-to-know-you games, in which multiple people confessed they’d be 007 in another life, and we all learned that our CEO and founder Nick was once hit by a car while running after an ice cream truck. (Um, ouch!)

Just because we already took down the tiki lights doesn’t mean the fun has to end. Check out the luau-themed playlist we rocked out to below (it’s almost as good as dipping your toes in the ocean).

*Fun fact, “For You” is one of Saxbys’ signatures!
