From Sketch to Cafe: A Recap of our Latest Student Artwork

The saying goes “earth” without “art” is just “eh.” We couldn’t agree more. Especially when it comes to our cafes. That’s why our walls serve as great canvases for student art. We aren’t talking just any regular art – but some seriously incredible, hand-picked and stunning works created by college students. Within the past two months we’ve had the opportunity to meet a total of six extraordinarily talented students artists, all whom we very proudly display their creations within our walls. Check ‘em out here!

Kyle Mason Schmidt, Junior at West Chester University

Kyle Mason Schmidt doesn’t fit into just one style. Just a quick peek at his photography and you’ll find everything from bright colors to dynamic portraits and washed out, muted tones. The Scranton, Pa. native is now a junior in communications at West Chester University — and his work is being featured on the walls of Saxbys West Chester for a limited time.

Catie Dillon, Senior at Penn State University

For Catie Dillon, pursuing a career in art was never a doubt. Growing up in Pittsburgh, she was constantly drawing in a sketch pad. Now a senior at Penn State, the 22-year-old is finishing up a bachelor of fine arts in drawing and painting as well as a degree in advertising. She’s one half of the duo who completed our expansive mural at the brand-new Saxbys Penn State cafe.

Lindsey Kircher, Senior at Penn State University

It’s hard to pick a major when you’re still a teenager. It feels like that one decision will determine your career path forever — and many struggle with it. But not Lindsey Kircher. Drawing and painting are her passions and there was no doubt that she’d focus on them in college. Now the 21-year-old Visual Arts major has her work on public display for the first time at the brand-new Saxbys Penn State cafe. She’s one half of the duo that painted the amazing 30-by-8 foot mural.

Dylan Eddinger, Senior at West Chester University

Dylan Eddinger loves taking pictures. Whether it’s a band rocking out or a gorgeous outdoor shot, Eddinger loves seeing the world through the camera lens. Now the 22-year old from Boyertown, Pa. is getting a chance to showcase his work at the brand-new Saxbys cafe at St. Joseph’s University. He’s a senior entertainment marketing major who’s got aspirations of touring with bands after college and giving professional photography a real shot.

Laura Coppard, Sophomore at Drexel University

Laura Coppard has traveled a long way to study art. In fact, the 19-year-old Drexel University sophomore hails from New Zealand — but she’s falling in love with Philadelphia and it’s incredible art scene, especially the hundreds of murals around town. Now Coppard has painted a mural of her own inside the Saxbys Drexel cafe. It’s her first public art installation and she’s pumped to have people walk in and out of the cafe seeing her work.

Tim Flynn, Sophomore at Drexel University

Tim Flynn is killer at surfing. He is also killer at photography. The 19-year-old Drexel sophomore discovered his passion for photography while in high school and he has been carrying his camera everywhere since. Flynn hopes to one day run his own business and break away from the 9-5. Currently, you can catch Flynn taking photos throughout Philly. Or, you can catch his photos on the walls of our Drexel N 34th Street cafe.
